NATIONAL SPORTS AWARDS
(Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, MAKA Trophy)
The Government of India established the Arjuna Awards in India in the year of 1961 for the outstanding performance from the sportspersons in sports and games. The Government has modified the format of Aijuna Award very recently and as per the revised schematic guidelines a sportsperson must have very good consistent performances for the previous three years at the international level to be considered as eligible for the Award. The person should also have excellence in his or her respective field of sport for the year for which the Award is recommended he or she should show some extraordinary qualities like the leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline in his or her own field throughout his or her career. The Government gives a statuette of the legendary warrior Arjuna, a scroll of honor, a ceremonial dress and also a cash award of an amount of Rs. 3.00 lakhs to the Awardees.
Sports awards in India are given by the Sports Ministry of India to honor the players who have performed very well in their field of sport. It is done so as to enhance the player’s spirit and recognize his or her achievements. It is also intended to help and support sportspersons with outstanding caliber
ARJUNA AWARD
The Arjuna Awards were instituted in 1961 by the government of India to recognize outstanding achievement in National sports. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 500,000, a bronze statuette of Arjuna and a scroll. Over the years the scope of the award has been expanded and a large number of sportspersons who belonged to the pre-Arjun Award era were also included in the list. Further, the number of disciplines for which the award is given was increased to include indigenous games and the physically handicapped category. The Government has recently revised the scheme for the Arjuna Award. As per the revised guidelines, to be eligible for the Award, a sportsperson should not only have had good performance consistently for the previous three years at the international level with excellence for the year for which the Award is recommended, but should also have shown qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline. From the year 2001, the award is given only in disciplines falling under the following categories: Olympic Games / Asian Games / Commonwealth Games / World Cup / World Championship Disciplines and Cricket Indigenous Games Sports for the Physically Challenged
DRONACHARYA AWARD
Dronacharya Award is an award presented by the government of India for excellence in sports coaching. The award comprises a bronze statuette of Dronacharya, a scroll of honour and a cash component of Rs. 300,000. The award was instituted in 1985. As the best sportsperson award is named Arjuna Award, it is appropriate that the coaching award is named after Dronacharya, as he was the Guru of Arjuna.
RAJIV GANDHI KHEL RATNA AWARD
The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (RGKR) is India’s highest honor given for achievement in sports. The words “Khel Ratna” literally translate to “Sports Gem” in Hindi. The award is named after the late Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India. It carries a medal, a scroll of honor and a substantial cash component. Up to 2004-05, the cash component was Rs. 500,000/- (c. 11,500 USD). The money has been increased from Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 750,000. The award was instituted in the year 1991-92 to supply the lack of a supreme national accolade in the field of sports. Predating the RGKR are the Arjuna awards that have always been given to outstanding sportspersons in each of many sporting disciplines every year. The Khel Ratna was devised to be an overarching honor, conferred for outstanding sporting performance, whether by an individual or a team, across all sporting disciplines in a given year.
MAKA (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad)
The Maulana Abul Kamal Azad Trophy is awarded annually to the university, which has given the best all round performance during the year of award, this award was instituted as a Running Trophy in 1956-57. The winner receives, a replica of the Trophy and a cash award of Rs.2,00000/- which is to be utilized for acquiring sports equipment's.
National Sports Awards
The National Sports Awards is the collective name given to the six sports awards of the Republic of India. It is awarded annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. They are presented by the President of India in the same ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, usually on 29 August. Since 2004, Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award is also given alongside the other sports awards. As of 2020, a total of 1,259 individuals and organizations have been awarded the various National Sports Awards.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy was instituted in the year 1956–1957. It is given to the university for "top performance in the inter-university tournaments" over the period of the last one year.
Arjuna Award
Arjuna Award was instituted in the year 1961. It is given to sportspersons for "consistent outstanding performance" over the period of last four years. The award comprises "a bronze statuette of Arjuna, certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of ₹15 lakh (US$18,000).
Dronacharya Award
Dronacharya Award instituted in the year 1985, it is given to coaches for "producing medal winners at prestigious international events". The award comprises "a bronze statuette of Dronacharya, a certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of ₹15 lakh (US$18,000).
Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna
Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna was instituted in the year 1991–1992. It is given to sportspersons for "most outstanding performance by a sportsperson" over the period of last four years. The award comprises "a medallion, a certificate, and a cash prize of ₹25 lakh (US$30,000).
Dhyan Chand Award
Dhyan Chand Award was instituted in the year 2002. It is given to individuals for "lifetime contribution to sports development". The award comprises "a Dhyan Chand statuette, a certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of ₹10 lakh (US$12,000).
